Jam Sessions

Schedule a Jam Session

You play with other musicians on Lutefish through jam sessions. Setting one up is quick and easy.

We recommend all participants be within a 500-mile radius of one another for the best experience.

Note: The Stream must be in a Lutefish session to process audio, so you need to set up a test session to set levels and test equipment with the Stream.

Collaboration tools

We want your Lutefish sessions to feel like you're jamming with everyone in same room, so we've set up collaboration and communication tools for more personable sessions. You can use your webcams to broadcast adjustable live video feeds to your bandmates, communicate with the Stream's built-in mic and the session text chat, and even react with emojis. To share your sessions, you can set up a live stream for your friends and fans to view your session over the web and record your session to share later.

Jam Session FAQ

I can't hear my audio.

First, make sure you're in a session. You must be in a session for the Stream to process audio.

If you see an audio signal coming through in the session mixer, the issue is likely with your monitoring:

  • Check you have your monitoring volume set correctly (large volume knob on the Stream), but don't turn it up all the way as this can be dangerous.

  • Make sure your headphone cable is fully inserted into one of the headphone inputs on the Stream.

    • Test your headphones on another audio source to confirm they are working.

  • Check that the levels are set correctly (not all the way down) in the session mixer. Use the edit arrow at the bottom of your mixer channel to check the individual input levels.

If you don't see audio coming through in the session mixer, check your signal path and connectivity:

  • Check your instrument or microphone cabling is connected correctly.

  • Ensure your microphone does not require phantom power or that you've supplied an alternative phantom power supply; the Stream does not have phantom power.

  • Check that your input gain levels are set correctly and that you have the input switch set to the correct input setting.

My audio sounds distorted.

This is likely due to clipping, which results from setting your channel input gain too high. Make sure the input switch is set to the appropriate setting for your audio source. Then, turn down the input gain on the Stream and/or session mixer until the signal distortion ceases. Use the volume knob if you need louder monitoring. If you can't get your signal to an audible level without unwanted distortion, there's likely another issue in your signal path prior to the audio reaching the Stream.

Mute is not working

The mute function does not mute the Stream's audio inputs. Both the mute button on the jam session toolbar and the mute button on the Stream only mute the Stream's built-in mic. To mute your inputs, turn down your audio source, such as turning down the volume knob on a guitar, or turn down your faders in the session mixer. You can also turn down the Stream's input gain knobs for each channel you want to mute.
