Enabling Webcam Permissions in Chrome and Safari for Lutefish
If your camera isn’t working in Lutefish, it’s often due to browser permissions.
This guide walks you through enabling webcam access in Chrome and Safari.
Google Chrome
First Time Prompt
When you join a session, Chrome should ask:
“Allow camera access?”
Make sure to select:
Allow
If You Don’t See the Prompt
Click the lock icon in the address bar (left side).
Find Camera.
Set it to Allow.
Refresh the page.
Check Chrome Settings (If Needed)
Go to Chrome Settings.
Navigate to:
Privacy and Security → Site Settings → Camera
Make sure:
Camera access is enabled
Lutefish is not blocked
Safari (Mac)
First Time Prompt
Safari will ask:
“Allow camera access?”
Select:
Allow
If Camera Is Blocked
Go to Safari → Settings (Preferences).
Click the Websites tab.
Select Camera from the left sidebar.
Find Lutefish in the list.
Set it to Allow.
Check macOS System Permissions
If Safari still doesn’t work:
Open System Settings (or System Preferences).
Go to:
Privacy & Security → Camera
Make sure:
Safari is enabled
Still Seeing a Grayed-Out Camera?
If your camera is visible but grayed out, it may be caused by software conflicts (like OBS Virtual Camera).
